Near Field Communication, abbreviated as NFC, is a set of short-range wireless technologies. It typically needs a distance of 4cm or less to initiate a connection between two NFC enabled devices. It allows you to share small payloads between a transmitting device and a receiving device.

A wide range of products can use NFC standard and can be considered either passive or active, depending merely on how the device works. While passive NFC device can only send information to other NFC devices, active NFC devices can both send and receive data as well as can communicate with each other and with passive devices.
